Middleport Bill Clears House Link To Sewage Plan
Middleport and Pomeroy fight over Ohio River pollution. House Bill Eight, approved 88 to 33, shifts pollution burden to the Water Pollution Control Board before ordering sewage plants. The measure allows septic facilities with health board approval and targets village residents under 5000. Both towns face penalties for unpermitted river dumping and renewed permit lawsuits in Meigs County Court.

President Fred Leifheit, Prosecuting Attorney Berard Fultz, and County Commissioner Avery Nelson outlined steps for securing aid, noting the county can qualify while the Agricultural Society cannot. The board also approved an electric pump for a well near the cattle barn and named a grandstand committee led by Leifheit, Downie, and Slanter to meet with Marietta Concrete Co. to discuss costs for a 1200 capacity grandstand. The junior fair building is expected to be finished by July 1.
