Court Holds Evidence Is Insufficient in Petition
Campbell Stevens challenged Ernest Hesson the Republican sheriff nominee in a contested election at Black Precinct 3 and Glenwood Precinct 25. The county court ruled Stevens did not provide enough evidence to overturn the vote and excluded affidavits in favor of cross examination in open court. The affidavits were kept in the record for possible appeal.

The Chevrolet truck stolen from the John McCausland farm south of the Kanawha was found abandoned and undamaged near Summersville in Nicholas County. The local state police detachment was notified. The case involving Stevens and Hesson ended after the court overruled a motion to disregard precinct votes. The abrupt decision relieved Hesson from presenting witnesses for a counter contest.
