Railroads Unite to Seek Higher Freight Rates
Eastern railroad presidents plan to unite with western and southern lines to petition for a general freight rate increase. A representative will explain the pact in Washington ahead of a Thursday presidents’ meeting. The petition targets the Interstate Commerce Commission one week after the meeting, arguing higher rates to cover debt interest and avoid receivership. The push faces strong opposition from shipper groups, including the National League of Commission Merchants, which says current charges are excessive and promises wide producer and farmer backing.

Court Delays Co ed's Case in Ohio University Dispute
In Columbus on June 6 the Attorney General said the First District Court of Appeals would not hear Miss Jean West's case against the trustees of Miami University before adjournment. The suit questions whether the board can expel a student for poor scholastic standing. A rehearing on an injunction against expulsion was also sought, arguing the injunction could bar actions by other state universities. The case would likely be carried over to fall with an early hearing requested.
