Palo Alto June 5 David Lamson Stanford University Press sales manager faced murder charges in the death of his wife Allene 28 Stanford YWCA executive secretary. Defense counsel opened with new facts claiming a prowler entered the home while Lamson worked in the garden his appearance allegedly caused Mrs Lamson to swoon and strike her head in the bathtub. Former congressman Arthur M Free turned the case to an associate asserting the prowler would be produced later.
In St. Clairsville, Harry Hart, a 45 year old disabled World War veteran, was held on a first degree murder charge after he shot Edmund Carey, 32, who was killed instantly. Police say the shooting followed a dispute over money.

He urges House sub committee to limit the tax to one year while policymakers consider broader relief. The veto message pushes four year terms for elective county officers and staggered elections beginning 194? with four year cycles. The House moves quickly to repeal a bill extending county recorder terms.
A one year emergency sales levy substitute for a rejected 50 million tax plan was urged by a House taxation sub committee as it prepared a report for the assembly. Miss Josephine Cook aged 71 died Sunday morning at her home near Cook's Gap on the Pomeroy Rutland Road. She and a sister had lived there for years forming the family after which Cook's Gap was named. Death followed a stroke of paralysis. Survived by the sister and a nephew in Youngstown. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Ten abducted persons, a county official wounded, and mob violence threats marked a weekend pursuit as Kansas fugitives roamed the countryside. Frank Sawyer, the second of 11 escapees recaptured, was caught after a gunfight near Binger with Sheriff Horace Crisp and Deputy Al Marlow. Robert Goodfellow, Caddo County clerk, was seriously wounded. McBride Rayfield and Miss Callie Stewart were forced to ride with two men into St Louis after their escape.

Gallipolis reports the Senator Cordil as the first packet in years to carry export freight. It departed with pottery and clay products bound for New Orleans and reshipment at Cincinnati for river barge transfer, then ocean transit via Panama to Japan. Capt. Wiley Hill commands the Cordil with Capt. Sidney Booth and Capt. Frederick Way as pilots.
Sheriff Charles Stratton and Deputy Karl Gardner investigated a robbery at Stewart and an attempted theft at Broadwell early Sunday. About $200 in groceries and meats vanished from Baldwin's Grocery Store at Stewart after a window was broken. Night Watchman Frank James surprised two men breaking Hawthorn's General Store window at Broadwelt. he fired four shots as they fled, but the duo escaped.
Jesse Davis seventeen of Gallipolis drowned after falling from a skiff near Dam 46 on the Ohio River Sunday morning. Teammate Dayton Fife seventeen of Raccoon Island saved himself by grabbing a chain. Drag and dredge teams searched the river while Davis was pulled downstream near the boat.
James and Amy Johnson Morrison, Britain’s famed flying couple, postponed the start of their announced journey to New York and then nonstop to Aleppo before returning to London. The planned round trip covers about 12 000 miles with a day of rest in between.
Athens resident EB. B. Ray seeks 3879.26 in Athens County Common Pleas Court from Knapp and Company a bankrupt brokerage house alleging fraud in a securities purchase. Ray claims payment was made under false representations by the defendant.

Illinois voters cast ballots on repealing the Eighteenth Amendment as prohibition forces conceded defeat and repeal advocates predicted a three to one majority. Illinois was the ninth state to vote with early returns showing repeals strong in the first eight states. Indiana scheduled to vote Tuesday.

In Sidney Ohio area a 43 year old Mrs Nettie Egbert reportedly killed a newborn infant whose body was found wrapped in carpet in an old well near Jackson Center. Authorities had entered her home for questioning when she drank poison and died. Mrs Mildred Wical 21 and Mrs Boghart 73 were connected as relatives and witnesses. A man was also held as a witness.
A schedule change for Greyhound Bus Lines increases Athens stops to about 26 minutes daily, enabling passengers to eat here. Estimated additional local income runs around 15000 dollars yearly with four transcontinental buses stopping, up from a two minute duration previously. The first longer stop attracted 22 passengers, with noon and 6:20 PM meal stops noted. The service runs along Federal Route No. 50.

Two state inspectors were sent to Youngstown to investigate sweatshop conditions at a local manufacturer. The two girl workers testified they were forced to work 11 hours daily on some days and earned two cents to 1.40 dollars per day for piece work on a government contract job.
