Rumor of Neely Senate Bid In West Virginia 1946
Kilgore may face a tough fight to retain the seat as Neely of the First District weighs a Democratic primary run. Neely, a veteran congressman long allied with union labor, could draw opposition from Kilgore, a Beckley area figure with strong mine country support. A three-cornered race could emerge with other prominent Democrats seeking a nomination.

Farm Work Getting Started in Mason County
Several dry days last week let Mason County farmers finish corn planting and ease farm tasks. Alfalfa, parsley and other hay crops are cut, hay and potatoes did well in the cool spell, though fewer potatoes were planted this spring. Early sweet corn and hay show good growth, local strawberries are on market with good prices, blackberry outlook is strong, and county apples will be more numerous than expected after April freeze. Nearly all family orchards will bear some fruit though few reach market.
