The Warren Township case against Mrs. Richard Carr on cruelty charges rests after the prosecution rested its case. Defense motions for acquittal were denied and a recess was granted to 1 p.m. as missing evidence arrived. Frances Jean Carr, 19, accuses her aunt and father of confinement and punishment at the aunt’s home.
Montreal police arrested eight men for questioning and seized dynamite fuses and timing devices in a campaign against the Quebec Liberation Front. A Belgian national, reportedly the group's leader, was among those detained. Police say the movement is Communist-led and has staged bombings in the Montreal area.
Atty General William Saxbe temporarily assigns Robert Duncan of Columbus as chief counsel for the state liquor department. Duncan, formerly of Urbana, replaces Perry Bayles who was hospitalized with a heart condition last Friday. Duncan also serves as chief counsel for workman's compensation in the Industrial Commission.
A vibrating red overnight bag caused a 15 minute scare on a Pan American ramp as authorities including police and FBI joined Mr and Mrs R Furgeson of Fort Lauderdale to inspect it. They removed a battery powered toothbrush and declared the bag safe. In Fairfield Connecticut the Rev Dr Randolph Ray 76 died.

In Birmingham federal court today Alabama Governor George Wallace faces a Justice Department bid to block interference with a court order to enroll two Negroes at the all white University of Alabama. Wallace, not expected to attend, previously pledged to proceed with his plan to keep Negroes out of the campus.
About 25 Negro students learned non violent protest tactics in a Jackson CORE classroom. The lesson included sit ins picketing and enduring mock beatings by a white agitator as instructor David Dennis guided youths to act non violently. Dennis Raymond and Betty Poole reported 100 to 150 youths trained last week with strict non violence standards.
The Supreme Court ruled the Taft Hartley act does not ban agency shop agreements in a General Motors Indiana case. Justice White delivered the opinion eight to zero with Justice Goldberg abstaining. A Cleveland group asked Gov Rhodes to study the impact of a Pennsylvania New York Central merger on Ohio. In Mount Vernon about 150 glass cutters returned to work after a one day walkout at Pittsburgh Plate Glass.
The Supreme Court unanimously struck down two public school transfer plans in Knox County and Davidson County. The rules allowed pupils to move to preferred schools by race, effectively maintaining segregation. Attorneys for Negro students argued the plans limited black students to all black schools, while white students could move based on race. Clark stated the plans promote discrimination and are invalid.
In Bangkok officials report the United States and Thailand opening a 6000 foot airstrip in northeastern Thailand near Laos. The perforated steel surface airstrip will serve civil and military planes, according to U.S. officials.
An Indian Airlines DC3 crashed near New Delhi while en route from Amritsar to Srinagar killing 29 aboard. Among the dead are five members of the family of U S university professor James Clarence Laverty of Champaign Illinois, per the U S Embassy.
UN diplomats anticipate General Assembly action to fund Congo and Middle East peacekeeping through a mix of assessed budgets and voluntary contributions.
