Rainfall in Area Benefits from 3.14 Inches Saturday
Athens area received 3.14 inches of rain Saturday and 0.49 inches Sunday, totaling 3.63 inches for the weekend. The downpour revived baked ground and wells, boosted strawberry crops in Albany Coolville and Amesville, and aided gardens and fruit crops while not causing major wheat damage. County extension agent Ross Wright noted little topsoil loss and said alfalfa damage was limited, with late rain helping upper crops but less benefit to lower hay. Corn progress lagged due to cool weather and moisture shortage.
