Athens County Hurdles Block State Road Transfers
Athens County faces mounting resistance as property owners refuse 60 foot rights of way for 56 miles of roads slated for state transfer by June 30. Many lands include homes and churches needing removal or setback, and counties fear costs will exceed road funds. Some owners offer 50 foot rights, while others reject any sale.
