New York stocks led advance in a quiet morning session as steel shares rose about 1 percent to a 48 percent high, while chemicals and copper edged higher and utilities held steady. In Pittsburgh livestock futures, hogs topped 10.40 with varied gains across weights, cattle and calves mixed as market activity showed uneven strength. Washington reported government expenses and receipts for the current fiscal year through May 28 with a notable deficit and a cash balance of about 3.01 million dollars.
