Separate Trial For Sears In Vesco Case
Government lawyers agreed to try Harry L. Sears separately from John N. Mitchell and Maurice H. Stans in the Vesco probe. The four defendants are accused of conspiring to influence a federal inquiry into a $200,000 contribution to Nixon’s reelection. Sears’ statements could not be used in a joint trial. Oral arguments on dismissals are scheduled for Friday. Vesco fled the country and has resisted return.
