Secrecy on Cambodian raids disclosed to Senate panel
General Earle G. Wheeler testified that President Nixon ordered tight secrecy in March 1969 for U S bombing of Cambodia and that similar procedures were used in 1970 for B52 raids in Laos. He said dual reporting hid targets, with false data in Pentagon files, while defense officials sought to protect diplomacy. Pentagon later confirmed 3630 B52 sorties into Cambodia from 1969 to 1970.
