C A Hartley, age 82, longtime Meigs County and Pomeroy journalist, died suddenly at his Lincoln Hill home after a 10 day illness. Born December 29 1856 in Ripley West Virginia he began as a Syracuse farm hand and river dock worker before joining The Telegraph in Pomeroy in 1884. He later helped form the Racine Tribune and merged it with The Telegraph, and most recently served The Athens Messenger as Meigs County representative. Hartley’s prolific writing appeared in national magazines and pulps alongside local news over a career spanning many papers.
