New Orleans July 31. Two companies of the Louisiana National Guard were ordered out and held under arms at Jackson Barracks yesterday then dismissed today without reason. Military authorities refused further comment beyond confirming the troopers were sent home by orders from Louisiana officials.
Ohio imposes a two cent tax on bottled beer to start Saturday August five as announced by state tax commissioner Carlton Dargusch. A cosmetics tax begins August first but stamps need not be applied to all stock immediately as dealers asked for more time to comply.

Eleven absent voter ballots, nine sent to Nelsonville electors now at Walbridge, were mailed today totaling 51 ballots issued from the county board of elections. Ballots mailed to Walter L Lines C Boudinot Mrs Ritta Horton Clarence E Wolfe H H Patton Nellie Patton C H Maffin John Horton and S M Gilham. Thomas West and Majel Lee expected to receive ballots at Nelsonville today.
Commercial National Bank in San Antonio failed to open after rumors linked to a $500,000 government bond purchase. The bonds, reported stolen from Continental Bank and Trust Company in New York, triggered the closure despite unfounded speculation.

K T Crossen Post No 21 meets Wednesday night to determine if the Ohio Sailors and Soldiers Orphans Home band from Xenia can be funded for travel to the American Legion National Convention in Chicago in October. If funded the orphans will open a session, lead the 40 and 8 parade, join the Legion parade, and visit the World's Fair. Delegates to the Lima state convention on August 13 will be elected at the same meeting.
About 300 people attended the Athens County 4-H Club annual picnic at Syracuse Beach. Dr. Edith Beecher and Ohio University assistants led recreation games while boys played baseball and girls dodge ball. Tom Johnson and club leaders organized the event with lunch, swimming, and river boating.

Dayton Ohio July 31 Perry Nicholson 27 was found suffocated today in a soap flake bin at the Cincinnati Soap Company plant. Officials cannot explain how he fell in. Police failed to revive him with an inhalator.

Stewart July 31 funeral services are set for W. P. Minear who died Sunday at his home near Stewart. The services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o clock at the Stewart M. E. Church, officials said.
Gallipolis July 31 local grocers from independents and chains will meet at 9 o clock tonight at the Evans Brothers store to set working hours and city schedules. The gathering aims to coordinate retail hours and related planning for Gallipolis.

The move aids shops where workers currently exceed 60 hours, with weekly pay set at 12 to 15 dollars and aims to avert hardship while a permanent code is formed.
Merritt Preston a 17 year old Eagle Scout assisted Frank Hooper 19 after a grease pig chase at the Fairgrounds. Preston and Misa Pearl French with Red Cross secretary gave artificial respiration. Hooper was taken to Sheltering Arms Hospital for X rays to determine the outcome.
