The State Department reports Americans in Hupeh Hunan Honan and Szechwan warned to seek safety as bandit activity rises. Consul Richard Butrick in Hankow circulated the alert after Changsha was pillaged by so called Communists. Two Americans remained in Changsha while 45 left and are aboard naval vessels. American holdings in Changsha are valued at about 465000 in real estate and 1550000 in goods.
Hartford report based on 46 cities with 25.6 million people shows arrests for law violations rising from 788,896 to 1,841,942 from 1920 to 1930. Last year one in 16.6 residents was arrested. Robbery arrests up 212 percent and liquor law violations up 141 percent.
William Rankin of Cleveland was named chief of the Toledo Federal Prohibition Enforcement Division. He will assume duties tomorrow, replacing William J Brennan who returns to Columbus headquarters. Rankin was formerly agent in charge of field work in the Cleveland District.
An aunt and a Smith College alumna determined today that a Cincinnati girl using the names Jane Smith and Mary Wilson is not the New York Frances Smith, despite a body identified as Frances Smith found in the Connecticut River. Police compare photos and handwriting. authorities say Miss Wilson may be the missing girl.
An intensive search began for six missing after they left Lakeside, Michigan, for Detroit in a speedboat at 1 pm Tuesday. Names include Herbert Kinney, pilot from Detroit, a Detroit girl believed Kinney's niece, Charles R. Eavy of Lakeside, Theodore Shinavar of Lakeside, and Chester Beau and Beryle Pete of Erie, Michigan. The boat, owned by James Lacey of Detroit, left Luna Pier in fair weather and likely had engine trouble. Rumors of rescue by a freighter near Port Stanley, Ontario, lack verification.

The craft features enclosed passenger walks and engines within the hull.
Donald Brown of Fremont and his 22 year old bride, wed last week, face arrest after a Niagara Falls honeymoon return with 48 pints of alleged Canadian whisky. Brown is jailed in Lorain County for liquor transport while his wife remains in Toledo on a separate hold. She claims she did not know of her husband’s name or prior marriage, blaming memory lapses from liquor.
