Wayne Chase announces the slate for Meigs County ASCS community committees to govern 1965 66 farm programs. Ballots list nominees by community, with voting due by August 9 and tabulation August 11. The County Convention to elect the full committee will be held August 18 at 9 30 a.m. in Pomeroy.
Feeney-Bennett Post Auxiliary in Middleport installed new officers led by president Mrs. Albert Roush and first vice president Mrs. Carl Searles. The group heard Cleveland convention reports, planned two sales for Aug 6-7, and prepared for a Veterans birthday party in Chillicothe on Aug 19.
The Women's Guild of the Federated Church in Pomeroy held a Christmas in July party at the church. A clothing box was sent to Rev. William Meyer in Kentucky and another to a Pomeroy family. A quilt by Mrs. Ebersbach and Busy Bee Sewing Circle was shown and will go to a Miami center. The group planned another clothing drive with Mrs. Blaettar as chair, while upcoming United Church of Christ events at Pilgrim Hill were announced. The gathering featured devotions, a Christmas story, singing, and a festive punch and cookie service.
Meigs County Common Pleas Court Judge John C. Bacon appointed Lauren Hoffman of Dexter to the jury commission. Hoffman replaces J. E. Rowe who resigned. Freeland Norris of Racine and Hoffman met to select 400 jurors for Meigs County.
Pomeroy reports include a divorce granted to James Priddy of Rutland Route 1 from Jennie Lou Priddy in Meigs County. Four children awarded custody. Witnesses and visitors from Long Bottom and Athens Road appear at local events. A DAR planning meeting in Middleport and a traffic citation in Pomeroy conclude the notice.
Middleport notices list Miss Mabel Hysell and Miss Frances Roush visiting Gallipolis for a medical check up after surgery. Several families from Gallipolis and nearby towns hosted relatives and friends from Racine Urbana Caledonia and Dayton during weekends and holidays. A farewell party at the Gallipolis State Institute honored retiring workers Zelma Houck and Anna Plymle with a potluck dinner at the Plymle home Route 35 Spring Valley.
Meigs General Hospital admitted Clara Walker from Pomeroy Isabelle Hannahs from Pomeroy Edith Rife from Middleport Archie McKinney from Dexter.
A minor accident occurred on State Route 143 at Murray Hill Rd at 7 10 a m Thursday when Keith George Kennedy 24 Rutland Route 1 rode his motorcycle into the rear of a car driven by Jack Twaine Cleland 18 Rutland Route 1 Cleland faced east on 143 and was turning left Kennedy was thrown to the pavement and suffered leg bruises He was cited to appear in Meigs County Court Friday for failure to stop in an assured clear distance
The engagement of Miss Caroline Spicer Stamm of Middleport to Lt. Ernest V. Plantz of Key West Florida is announced. Plantz is a Navy officer. Stamm’s father was Earle W. Stamm of Hartford. A fall wedding is planned.
Mr and Mrs Lewis Triplett celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary with a buffet dinner at the home of their son Franklin Triplett on Fairlane Drive. Attendees included Richard Long and family Phillip Bailey and sons Frank and Jerry White Franklin and family, plus a call from Nina Haddox in Washington DC.
