Hughes Family Opens New Dowler Funeral Home Facility
In 1950 David H. Hughes bought Dowler Ferguson and Hughes at 9 North College Street. To ease downtown traffic, the new hall sits in a quiet residential area with an air conditioned parlor that can be divided into two or three chapels. Architect H B Trautwein of Columbus designed it with modern equipment in tile preparation rooms and a casket display. An adjacent Hughes residence houses overflow crowds, with Mrs. Hughes and sons James and Donald ready to help. A three car garage replaces the old one and the lot offers parking for 30 cars.
