Court upholds variance for General Telephone expansion in Athens
Common Pleas Judge John Bolin upheld the zoning board of appeals grant of a variance to General Telephone Co. for a new building at 16 W. Washington St. The court found adequate reasons in the record, noting the location as a city cable center and essential service, and rejected claims that the action was unconstitutional or beyond the board's authority. Baker and his daughters challenged the ruling, arguing potential rent impacts and improper reclassification. The case centered on setback and parking distance variances tied to the planned addition and library relocation plans.
