Road Building Halted in Gallia County
The state highway department halted work in Gallia County after months of activity on the Cheshire Rio Grande road leaving a half mile gap and a detour. A bridge over Barnes Creek near Harrisburg was promised but not built while a two mile southern section near Porter was completed. The coal road connects Cheshire coal fields to Rio Grande and Route 35. About 100 WPA workers were employed during active progress, now abandoned with no explanation. No 1941 projects by the department in Gallia County are listed. Rumor says a five mile macadam stretch on Route 7 may be advertised for sale this fall though nothing definite is assured.
