Report on Guyan coal field conditions and unionization

Acting Adjutant General Davis reported to Gov. Cornwell that living conditions in the Guyan field compare favorably with others and that workers are not forced. Testimony does not show a majority desire to unionize in Guyan. Coal operators in Logan oppose unionizing and will use legal means. County guards are paid by coal operators’ association, a practice condemned. The Logan field not shown to maltreat workers, and armed miners’ raid was a reconnaissance for propaganda.
