Desert dash to save boy ends in tragedy after tire blow
In Wendover Utah deputies and a highway patrolman attempted a 100 mile desert ambulance ride to Tooele for 14 year old Jimmy Carlos who was gasping for breath. A spare tire had been used recently and four miles from Wendover a tire blew. Oxygen was delivered from a plant and later from a second cruiser but Jimmy died at the hospital. The driver later reported the tire had been slashed to fail at the critical moment. The officers ensured the boy was oxygenated during the perilous trek and the death is attributed to the deliberate tire damage.
