The 101st Meigs County Fair emphasizes horses with a first time rodeo on opening day August 18 by the King Brothers Rodeo at 2:30 and 7 p m. Conformation judging on August 19, the world open horse show at 1 p m, and a 7:30 p m horse pulling contest with light middleweight and heavyweight classes. Colt stakes, twilight and afternoon racing, pony and horse runs, and prize payouts lead to August 21 22. Fair officers include Fred C. Leifheit president and Harry Slanter ex officio director.

Five residents of West Virginia were hurt when a station wagon veered off Route 7, rolled over twice, and overturned into a guard rail. The crash near Sundown Nite Club sent the vehicle onto an embankment and triggered a bee swarm that stung the injured passengers and emergency workers.
