Athens residents report on county events and gatherings. A large number travel to Columbus for Barnum show while others note infrastructure progress on the C H V T railway. Community notices include fairs, weddings, fatalities, and local outings at Kilkare with Chautauqua club picnic and poetry.
The report credits Supervisor Wood with a tabular census of Athens County showing township populations, soldiers and widows, and total farms. It notes a net gain of 6,209 since 1880, with York and Trimble mining townships posting the largest increases, 3,347 and 3,541 respectively, and urges preservation of the table for reference.
John A Boland dies after a short illness from heart failure at age 33. Funeral held Monday at St Pauls Catholic Church with a large attendance. He leaves a widow and two young children.
The county school examiners awarded teaching certificates at their last meeting in Athens on Saturday July 12. One year certificates went to Lettie Headley Mizpah Swartz Cecil R. Cline Hattie White L. R. Andrews W. H. Katzenbach Mattie McCune Mrs. H. C. Hall Amanda Cooper Ida Allison Eva Wagoner W. H. Boden Rosa Cook. Two year certificates were granted to Blanche Howe T. D. Hall F. M. Kirkendall William Pierce Asher Dixon W. A. Wood G. E. Peebles and Ruie Peebles.
The county reports a thriving fair this fall with strong business and growing college attendance. Officials note no delays in road improvements and many delinquent subscribers paying up. A record Republican majority is noted in Athens County since the GOP was organized.
Mary Lyon one year old daughter of Frank Lyon died last night at the family home 424 Gray street. Interment will be this afternoon at five from the house. Lyon is a leading linotype operator in the Times composing room and well regarded by colleagues who extend sympathy in his loss.
The mayor held public levees at the city building where a string of offenders faced fines and jail. Notables included Isaac Decker fined 35 dollars, Ida Smith 25, John Farrell 3, and Frank Harper 50 plus 60 days in the Cincinnati work house for drunkenness. Others received 5 and 25 dollar penalties with 20 to 60 day stays in the work house.

Mrs Collier and children from Wheels West Va visit Athens parents. A N Scott, newly married ex-O U student, to rejoin college in fall. Frank Merrick, partner of Emmett Tompkins, comes from Columbus to oversee county court business. Mr and Mrs Thos C Jones and two children return to Jackson after visit to Athens.

Elza Goodspeed runs a neat and sweet meat market in Ohio at Ballard corner south court street. The shop offers fresh and smoked meats daily with courteous service from an efficient butcher. Prices are described as reasonable and the invitation is extended to local residents.
The annual session of the Athens County Teachers Institute will commence on Monday August 4 and run for four weeks. The institute will be called to order at 10 o'clock in the morning in the academy hall.
The Phoenix Block cafe owner C L Phillips announces catering services for parties or picnics in addition to meals. The item notes local political stumpers may be missed in Ohio campaigning and promotes L O Tullis shoe store for boots and shoes in the Blackstone building.
Prof W G Bonsexu, piano and organ tuner, will be in Athens about August. Orders left at Mrs Norris Music store or Brown House receive prompt attention. Also notes shoe seller Tullis and furniture dealer Perry Beal offering low cash prices.
