City council adjourns as workmen start removing seats
Last night the crowded chambers adjourned with a session ending. Today crews began removing council seating to the west front room of City Hall. The council approved ordinances under suspension to start Stimson Ave and Madison Ave improvements. The Stimson Ave assessment board supported the plan, with the city absorbing 40,000 for the service station site and residents paying about half the remaining 80,000. The site will be leveled for a five lane intersection. Stimson Ave will be nine inch reinforced concrete 36 foot wide, Madison Ave 24 foot wide with seven inch concrete. About 600 feet of 12 inch storm sewer will be added from Kern to Palmer. Water rates likely to rise to fund a one million dollar city share of water expansion, with a nine to ten cent per thousand gallon hike discussed for next year.
