Relief crisis in Athens County prompts Ray Noble visit
Athens County faces an unpaid relief deficit around 46000 dollars as of June 30 with increasing caseloads. Ray Noble, state welfare adviser, told commissioners and officials that county relief spending has halted except for a 50 percent state match, threatening continued aid after August. He urged workload reductions, WPA quota increases, and a uniform township work relief rate while noting potential 400 extra WPA workers and 200 300 more project placements could ease the burden.
