In Cleveland a masked parachute stunt by 21 year old Miss Jean Buhl from Willoughby Township ended with one chute partly tangled and the other unopened after a jump from 3 500 feet to entertain a crowd. If she landed safely she would receive 8 to 10 dollars from onlookers. In Xenia Walter Bean a 65 year old examiner with the State Bureau of Public Accounting died on Sunday. he had served as Greene County auditor from 1909 to 1913.
William M. Ransom, former New York City court justice and chief counsel for the State public service commission, wins a hard fought election within the American Bar Association.
Nathan Wade, 60, a former Glouster resident, is jailed in Morgan County charged with shooting his ex wife Lida Wade and her brother in law William Waymer at the Fitch home near Ringgold. John Koons overpowered Wade before he could fire a second shot and Wade surrendered in McConnelsville. Wade had worked at J. W. Stoecklein store in Glouster for years.
Michael J. Lyden of Youngstown was chosen as the new president of the Ohio Federation of Labor and will serve as seventh vice president of the federation. He succeeds William M. Morgan and was elected unanimously by the executive committee. Lyden has 30 years as a local labor leader and rose to prominence in 1922 with the Amal gamated Association of Electric Street Railway Operators.
Noah LaPlante, 40, of Temperance Michigan, died in a hospital after police found him unconscious beside railroad tracks. Police believe he fell from a train.
Governor Davey refused to spare Russell Swiger 21 convicted of murdering Harold Fleming a gas station attendant in Zanesville. The governor said Swiger showed cunning in planning and committing the crime and questioned where the line for criminal responsibility lies despite petitions for commutation to life.
The Bureau of Mines estimated soft coal production for the week ended July 13 at 4,613,000 tons with daily output about 50 percent higher than the holiday week before. The 1934 comparable week produced 5,813,000 tons.
Dr Charles B Etter aged 73 died Sunday while offering a prayer in Grace Lutheran Church. He served 31 years as director of Wittenberg College and had pastored here for many years.
In Oklahoma City a fight between two bears, Maggie and Imp, led to Maggie falling 18 feet into a moat at the Capitol Zoo. Despite keeper Leon Blondi s prompting with apples, Maggie died from injuries after the bear was captured and moved.
Berlin report notes Reichsführer Hitler labeled Catholicism Germany’s Public Enemy No 1 as two priests go on trial for smuggling money. The Missionary order figures in a larger crackdown on religious figures accused of moving foreign exchanges amid government claims over foreign loans and permissions.
Thor Solberg and radio operator Paul Oscan yon complete first leg of trans Atlantic hop in the Lief Ericsson landing at Cartwright Labrador. The flight marks a milestone toward the planned ocean crossing with Solberg piloting and Oscan yon aboard.

Andrew Arnold, 55, identified as a Negro, died at Gallipolis while clearing brush on the riverbank a mile above the dam under construction. He told fellow workers his arm felt numb, sat to rest, then died minutes later. Coroner ruled natural causes not heat, survived by mother and siblings. funeral plans not set.
Cincinnati report notes Hal LeRoy Schot a stage dancer known as Hal LeRoy aims in court today to account for money from 1929 to 19. He sues father George Schotte once his manager alleging theft of their New York bank account after his marriage to Ruth Dodd.
In Columbus and at Steubenville and Warren districts the American Legion condemned Governor Davey’s vetoes. Two thousand Steubenville members at the Tenth Ohio District meeting adopted a resolution opposing the $8,800,000 vetoed budget, warning against actions that would deprive children of necessities. Davey cut the Xenia Soldiers' and Sailors’ Orphans’ Home appropriation by $385,098, prompting trustees to refuse new admissions.
Cincinnati report says a collision between a bus and an interurban freight car on a curve in North College Hill injured five people. The motorman blamed brake failure as his car struck the bus and ripped its left side.
A Sunday theft at the First Presbyterian Church saw several purses taken from choir singers while Mayor Harry J. Soussey led prayers in the pews. The thief eluded capture as the mayor gave chase.
Blood stains on the front of an automobile and broken headlights led to the arrest of two Alliance men questioned today about the death of Homer Miller aged 28 of Canton who was killed by a car near Limaville after a road house fight. Miller had been involved in a brawl with many others before he was struck and the car fled.
American missionaries at Huping College in Yochow Hunan Province report machine gun fire from a Japanese gunboat on July 1 near Tungting Lake. Rev Edwin Beck of Tiffin Ohio testified the armed craft fired on the college building endangering residents with bullets though no injuries were reported.
Washington reports Senators Bulkley and Donahey of Ohio approved a tentative plan to name Charlies West of Granville as assistant secretary of commerce West. If named, he would succeed John Dickinson and would remain a special assistant at the Farm Credit Administration until Congress adjourns.

Authorities planned to visit Mt Vernon to find a filling station where Robert C Byers said three men who kidnapped him refueled their car. Byers told police he was abducted by three men who mistook him or his brother George a Columbus automobile distributor. They reduced a ransom from 10000 to 500 after the mistake was discovered. He said he did not pay the ransom and was released Friday morning.
Brig Cen Frank D. Henderson of Columbus commands the Téth Infantry brigade and Maj. Robert Meeak of Columbus leads the 37th vision train as two Ohio National Guard units begin training at Camp Perry. The units arrived Sunday and take over quarters from the recently departed Tard infantry brigade.
In Seattle the Diaper Derby proceeds with all entrants starting from scratch after men objected to a 10 second handicap for women. The event bans advanced diapering tricks and requires three cornered old fashioned diapers. William Shapiro chairs the rules committee and warns against scratching a baby to avoid disqualification.
Ray Noble returned to Athens to supervise a new Works Progress Administration district serving Athens Meigs Vinton Hocking Lawrence Jackson Gallia and Washington counties. The program starts August 1 with about 709 men expected in Athens County. Pay scales vary by county with labor to professional rates and checks issued biweekly.
Five injured in clash as police used clubs to quell hundreds of striking textile workers at Industrial Region Corporation plant. Officers escorted over 100 workers inside. two women and three men were taken into custody.
In Barbertown Warren E. Kelly aged 60 died after drinking poison then his wife Catherine aged 45 followed by a drought and died. Coroner Richard Ames ruled the death of Kelly a homicide and labeled the wife's death accidental. Funeral services planned for Kelly.
