VINTON REPORTS IST POLIO CASE
Dr H M Boocks, health commissioner for Hocking Athens Meigs and Vinton counties, reports the first polio case in Vinton County in 1953 and the third in the four county district. Roger McFadden, three, of William McFadden family, contracted the disease July 12 and showed paralysis July 14. He was admitted to Children's Hospital Columbus last Saturday and gamma globulin was given to his mother and 17 month old brother. Two previous cases were in Athens County.

Woman Kills Mate Then Ends Her Life in Dayton
Dayton police report a red haired waitress killed her husband William Gillman 21 and then killed herself 22 while their baby slept and a 13 year old girl watched. Coroner Dr. Robert Zipf called it homicide and self inflicted death. The sister May Olson 15 relayed the story. Gillman had borrowed $5 and returned home after tavern visits triggering a quarrel over alleged infidelity before Mrs Gillman fired a .32 caliber revolver.

Ferry Riders Stranded on Disabled Ohio River Ferry
