President Truman issues a proclamation ordering draft registration to begin August 30 for youths born from 1922 onward with specific dates set for each birth year through 1930. Harry Norton Jr 17 remained in serious condition from gasoline engine fumes that killed his brother Herbert Norton 21 while three brothers cleaned a well on their father's farm near Radcliff.
