President Nixon ends the food industry price freeze under Phase 4, leaving beef subject to ceilings until Sept 12 while non food items stay under a 60 day freeze until Aug 12. Gasoline heating oil and diesel will face ceilings with firms pressured to cut margins. He warned of rising food prices to avert shortages and urged using powers to end controls.
The Ohio House approved a tough abortion bill 76 to 20, criminalizing actions that end a fetus alive at birth. It also passed a 76 to 12 vote on a tax break for outdoor recreational land with a discrimination amendment.
Conflicting reports emerged about four General Telephone supervisors evacuated from the Athens dispatching center under sheriff guard.
