Blaze Hits Lancaster Damages Two Buildings

Fire on Lancaster's east side damaged two structures, Lynch Lumber Sales and Lancaster Glass Corp. The loss is estimated at 250000 dollars and the blaze disrupted long distance lines used by General Telephone Co. The cause was undetermined. Survivor Nursed Accounts Chicago Nurse Massacre Details

The consul general of the Philippines relayed Corazon Amurao's account of the Chicago massacre in which eight student nurses were killed. Amurao, the sole survivor, said she and two Filipino nurses urged resistance but other American nurses cautioned against it. Richard Speck, 24, carried out the killings as Amurao hid under a bed.

Marines Hold Front Against North Vietnamese In Hastings Fight

In a four hour defense south of the 17th Parallel Marine platoons repelled waves of North Vietnamese troops to cover withdrawal of their battalion. About 500 enemy dead or wounded were reported, with heavy Marine losses. Air strikes and napalm halted the assault near Leatherneck positions as Hastings actions moved toward locating a North Vietnamese division near Laos. Nearby Pleiku area saw seven KIA in a separate clash as a U S 25th Infantry Brigade unit fought a North Vietnamese battalion near the Cambodian border. Bread prices in Ohio to rise one to two cents per loaf, per the Ohio Bakers Association.
