Ohio Brew Week Beer Trail kicks off with Athens stops
Athens residents Jan and Joe Tucker joined Ohio Brew Week's first Beer Trail Brewery Tour visiting Little Fish Brewing Co Jackie O's Pub and Brewery and Devil's Kettle Brewing. Sean White, head brewer at Little Fish, sampled Saison du Poisson while guests eyed menus and sipped a cucumber seltzer. Co-owner Jimmy Stockwell unveiled the new brewery digs as the trail launches.

Final decision on charter ballot pending in Athens County
Judge McCarthy ordered the charter measure forwarded to county commissioners for ballot certification. A commissioners vote is needed to place it on the ballot after they tabled it awaiting the elections board’s appeal decision. The measure would outlaw disposing of oil and gas well waste from fracking and restrict using county water for that drilling process.

Elections board weighs appeal after emergency session
The elections board met in private Thursday to decide on filing an appeal over a charter issue. They will reconvene August 4 at 9 a.m. If the issue is to appear on November ballots, County Commission President Lenny Eliason suggests commissioners have until August 5 to vote. He indicated the ruling may push them toward ballot placement, with appeal possible to the 4th District Court of Appeals or common pleas court. See chart on page A2.
