Albany Camp Meeting Draws Three Thousand Visitors

From July 4 to 20th Albany hosted a large camp meeting in Lee township drawing crowds from Meigs and Vinton counties. An estimated three thousand people attended the event near Albany, with music by the Albany and Marshfield bands and a 6 pound cannon used to signal morning services. The town showed signs of growth and enterprise, with many residents owning property and benefiting from the influx. Also noted is the marriage of G. L. Cable and Marguerite Cuckler after a five month engagement, with Cable studying medicine in Velambo.

Passing of Col. G. W. Baker in Athens Ohio

Col G W Baker dies at his home on Light Street after a period of poor health. A veteran of the Civil War he served as lieutenant colonel and held various public offices including mayor and treasurer. Funeral services were held at his residence with military and civic figures in attendance, followed by interment at the new cemetery. Also notes a Sunday school gathering at Jacksonville with eleven schools invited and a hot, blistering day.

Ohio University to Name Isaac Crook President

Ohio University trustees select Rev Dr Isaac F Crook of Nebraska Wesleyan University as the new president.
