Secret Panmunjom session set for tomorrow could make or break the armistice talks between Allied and Communist negotiators. Dispatches say Red demands for recaptured prisoners and ironclad guarantees from the UN loom large, with Pyongyang and Peiping radio reports signaling continued high tension.
Walter H. Robertson, Eisenhower emissary and assistant secretary of state, said he and Syngman Rhee reached an agreement that should bring an armistice if the communists are sincere. He rejected Peiping radio charges that talks blocked a truce and said the U S and ROK governments could sign a truce in good faith. Robertson will report to President Eisenhower on the Rhee agreements.
The 100th General Assembly adjourned in confusion as the House paused at 10:30 p.m. and the Senate continued 44 minutes longer before ending. Speaker William Saxbe led the House in an abrupt adjournment without Senate knowledge, while Senate Leader C. Stanley Mechem expressed surprise at the breakdown in the working accord.
