CIA Vietnam study notes three year old settlement terms

A declassified CIA assessment, intended for President Johnson, outlined Viet Cong terms for a settlement including a coalition government under Communist influence and a guaranteed U.S. withdrawal within a set period. The analysis, in Paris, preceded a July 1 Communist proposal and warned of risks if bombing ceased without major concessions.

Soviet Space Mishap Attributed to Human Error

The Soviet government announced that a pressure leak killed cosmonauts Georgy Dobrovolsky Vladislav Volkov and Viktor Patsayev during Soyuz 11 re entry. The commission said the descent vehicle was structurally sound and fault lay with a hatch seal error rather than spacecraft failure. The cosmonauts had spent 23 days aboard the Salute laboratory before a July 2 entombment in the Kremlin wall.

Man Jailed On Charge Of Murder At Laurelville Bar

Logan James Gilbert Woodgeard 51 of Thompson Ridge is held in Hocking County Jail on second degree murder charges after Barton Eugene Payne 48 of Laurelville died following a shooting at Dick's Tavern in South Bloomingville. Payne died in a Columbus hospital after transport from Hocking Valley Community Hospital. an autopsy is pending. Woodgeard appeared before Judge James Stilwell, pled innocent, bond set at 15000 with appointed counsel forthcoming. Police offered no motive but said many people were in the bar at the time.

Meany backs wage and price controls if needed

Four wounded as youths sought after Glouster shooting

In Glouster area, four men were wounded when shots fired from a passing car near Robert Stires Road. Richard Smith 17 and a 13-year-old girl are suspects at large after witnesses identified them as passengers. David Joe Richards 19 was later jailed for DUI on County Road 31.
