County plans seek HUD grant for countywide development
William McKinley of the Development and Planning Institute told the Athens County Regional Planning Commission that a $34,000 HUD grant application is in process to finish the comprehensive county plan. The project, to be run by Ohio U. group, would take about two years with a $17,000 local share if approved. A separate county sewer water plan, led by the planning institute and engineers Evans Mechwart Hamilton Tilton, was approved by the Farm Home Administration and aims to be completed within a year. The commission also backed tentative support for a Ravenswood West Virginia bridge across the Ohio River to aid regional traffic, though a quorum prevented formal action. The USDA noted FHA funds cannot cover the county’s share or related data gathering, to avoid duplicating federal funds.
