The Ohio House voted 75 to 13 to repeal the state fair trade laws, sending the measure to the Senate. Sponsors argued the laws are obsolete relics that gouge consumers, with estimates claiming 2.1 to 3 billion dollars a year in losses.
Two launch sites race toward liftoff as Soviet Baikonur workers move Soyuz to the pad while NASA crews rehearse in Houston for the Apollo Soyuz mission set for Tuesday. Former Air Force official says Alexander Butterfield was a CIA contact officer during his White House years. Prouty testified Butterfield aided the CIA, a claim NBC and sources cited, though no documents support it. Butterfield declined comment. his wife called the remarks false.
Agriculture Department projects 1975 corn output over six billion bushels and 1975 wheat near 2.2 billion as bumper crops may dampen price gains into late 1976. Officials note potential meat and dairy benefits but warn large Soviet purchases could cap price declines.

Lebanese security officers predicted the release of Col. Ernest R. Morgan 13 days after his kidnapping. Informants said two Syrian officers joined in the effort to secure his freedom. Al Bayraq reported a proposal to turn Morgan over to Syria.
Prime Minister Harold Wilson outlined a year long wage ceiling of 13.20 dollars per week for British workers to curb a 25 percent annual inflation rate. He ruled out a general price freeze, saying unions demand was not realistic, and set no raises for earners above 18 700 dollars a year.
W A Tony Boyle former United Mine Workers president faces sentencing on August 5 for ordering the 1969 killings of rival Joseph Yablonski and his wife and daughter. Delaware County Judge Francis J Catania set the date after denying Boyle's new trial motion. Boyle is already serving a three year federal term in Springfield Missouri for illegal use of union funds for political purposes.
The Ohio State Fair will host an 1850s fair within the grounds at Ohio Village from Aug 21 to Sep 1. Exhibits include farm tools and period crafts with demonstrations and events. a bus shuttles visitors between the main fairgrounds and the village.
Ohio officials say 600 next of kin of veterans who were killed in action or died from combat injuries in Vietnam qualify for the Vietnam era bonus. Each eligible survivor receives a $1,000 state payment.
Ford will attend an informal Republican breakfast in Chicago paid from official funds and be guest of honor at a reception hosted by Senator Robert Griffin near Traverse City Michigan. He makes two visits to Traverse City in as many days, with possible GOP meetings during the trip.
