Egg Quality Declines in Summer Says County Agent
County extension agent Ross Wright warns the next two months will be toughest for high quality eggs due to heat and low humidity. He advises gathering eggs several times daily, storing in a cool humid place, confining broody hens, feeding oyster shell and grits, and housing laying flocks in a shed until late afternoon to counteract quality drop. Consumers pay more for quality eggs, Wright notes, and producers should market higher quality to satisfy demand.
