Shantytown tours offer Lima a different tourist view
In Lima Peru shantytowns cling to sandy hills with bare roofs and damp air. Australian doctor Ashok Arasu and his wife Cherry Wu drop notebooks and socks to local children as they tour and learn the daily life behind Machu Picchu and cuisine. The firm says about 400 tourists yearly join small groups paying 45 dollars each, visiting markets and sharing meals while stressing mutual respect.
