Walk price in crease of per cents per quart an glandary milk becomes effectiv ere tnday as farmers seek to off set a loss occasioned by the halt ing of subsidy payments, dairymen of the surrounding area reported last night. The retail price will be 10 cents. They had earlier in the day es timated an increase of one cent per quart, but had to revise the figure when compelled to pay more for the milk. Generally, milk prices will go up two cents per quart. Buttermilk will rse from 11 to 18 cents per quart, and cottage chese from 15 and one-fourth cents per 12 ounce carton to 18 cents. Cream s sell for one and one-half cents more per pint. The price boost was the second in a month and is due to higher prices being paid farmers by con denseries, according to E. A. Mor ris, Huntington deputy marketing administrator of the Federal Mar keting Administration of the De partment of Agriculture. Since August 1, 1945, the price of class one mill 19 producers has been increased $1.95 a hun dredweight. "Prices to producers will be high er to take the place of the sub sidy previously paid by the gov ernment, which has been decreased or discontinued," he said. Mr. Mor ris also foresaw additional increas es in condensery prices and jin the price of butter, perhaps as much as 50 cents per hundredweight above the figure last month.
