The Ohio Senate rejected a proposed unemployment insurance measure and urged continued study pending a U S Supreme Court decision on the federal law. The body also debated resignation remarks by Sen John R Davis and sent a 1 5 million temporary relief bill to the House while House action was deferred.
At the Wheeling Steel Corp Portsmouth plant 3600 workers did not return to their jobs following a settlement of the eight week strike. Workers voted unanimously not to return at a mass meeting last night, authorities said.
The 30th annual state conference of the Bricklayers Masons and Plasterers International Union in Cleveland unanimously sustained craft organization, echoing a clash between craft and industrial unions in closing sessions.
Grace Kraft fled her barricaded apartment seeking hidden refuge after exposing her brother Harvey Thompson as a naval secret informant to Japan. Thompson was convicted in Los Angeles last week amid reprisals from relatives.

James T. Lail of Columbus reported being slugged and thrown from a four car in Logan about 9 30 Tuesday night. He said a man and a woman were in the car with him and deputies found no trace of the others. Lail was not seriously injured.
AFL leaders convene in Washington amid failure to ease a quarrel with John L. Lewis and his industrial union drive. President William Green warns rebels harm organized labor but vows to avert a full split with the 726? unions comprising one third of the AFL’s 3,000,000 members and dues.
Alfred A. Benesch, Ohio state director of commerce, denounces the fair trade practice act set to take effect Thursday. He says the measure uses a special interest clause and could be ruled unconstitutional by any state court. The law bars selling below minimum prices set by producers for identified goods across retail trade.
John D. Rockefeller Sr. marked his 97th birthday at Golf House Lakewood New Jersey and expressed hope to reach 100. He praised his health and stayed largely private, allowing a rare press photo and a 63 word statement as reporters surrounded the fortress estate.
George Thomas Hughes 13 fell to his death from a sycamore at the Briley home on New Marshfield Road Tuesday afternoon. He was found under the tree with a broken neck about an hour after leaving the house to play. He is survived by his parents Wesley and Blanche Hughes and five younger siblings. Funeral services will be held at the Briley residence Thursday at 2 pm with burial in Union Cemetery. Friends may call at Jones Funeral Home until 10 am Thursday.

Wheat and other grain prices climb in Chicago as the WPA opens cash relief centers for 170,000 drought families and plans for 50,000 immediate farm jobs. Roosevelt outlines larger relief, a mid August drought survey, and revised soil conservation rules to protect pasture and feed crops.
Heber L. Hicks allegedly confessed hiring three men for 5500 in securities to murder Capt. Harry R. Miller. The trio fled to Cleveland, and Hicks said Miller’s car is there. Hicks claimed Miss Flora Miller was exonerated, and Miller died to obtain 120000 in securities.
Frank Harris, 58, a McComb grain elevator operator, died from injuries after being struck by an aerial bomb during a Fourth of July celebration at Findlay park. The incident occurred today as festivities continued. Harris had been transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The Ohio Liquor Control Board rescinded its order barring James W. Miller from establishing agencies in cities of 50,000 or more after finding it lacked legal authority. The McCluskey Bill allows the director to place five stores or agencies for the first 40,000 of the county population, shifting focus from urban agency limits to rural constraints.
POMEROY Staff Special Harold Taylor of Rutland was found guilty of manslaughter by a Meigs County jury after driving the car that struck and killed John Beards near the Union Ave Bridge on May 22. The jury deliberated about an hour after retiring at 4:25. A motion for a new trial was filed. The defense noted the driver had been drinking before the crash and Taylor stopped to seek aid, not flee.
Chicago police freed Eddie Freed who they used as bait in the jealousy murder of entertainer Annabelle Blake. They hope his release will induce his wife Carmelita to surrender, as she is believed to have been with the victim when she was shot last Thursday.
In Michigan City Indiana the bodies of Siamese twins Norabelle and Annabelle, born joined at the skull base, will be donated to the Indiana Medical School Museum in Indianapolis. The father, Wesley Glick, 20, reported the second twin died about 28 hours after the first.
