Revisions in Athens Criminal Code Adopted by Council
The Athens City Council unanimously adopted revisions to the city criminal code after a year and a half of work. The action updated laws to align with state changes and court decisions, added new provisions on obstructing sidewalks and stop and frisk, and repealed two ordinances while updating others including alcohol in vehicles and trespassing. The meeting also approved sewage plant improvements, discussed a traffic light at Routes 56 and 682, and considered an easement for a high power line.

Inductions Pause Noted As Ohio Draft Boards Operate
Ohio draft offices continue physicals and classifications under executive order after the Selective Service Act expired. Col. Thomas Farrell says only inductions halt while Congress debates extension. June quota was 649, July expected near that level. A separate note mentions the 1812 discovery of South Pass opening a Rocky Mountain gateway.
