A St. Albans operator sent a short wave message that reached Point Pleasant native Lt. Loran Keefer in Bobington Germany. Keefer, with his wife and son, spoke to Mrs. Keefer after receiving the call from an unidentified Mr. Hyre. The unlikely cross Atlantic contact surprised the household and highlighted West Virginia connections across the world. Three Alarms Are Answered By Firemen
Point Pleasant volunteer fire department fought three alarms in under 24 hours late Monday and Tuesday. A carnival truck carrying an Octopus ride caught fire after a overheated rear tire near Harmon Field causing about $300 damage. Harold Oliver’s car burned at Jerrico Road with uncertain causes, likely from the rear seat. A Mason County Home Co. car burned on Second Street vacant lot, interior ruined but engine and tires saved.
