Hard Coal Contract Extension Approved

New York reports a contract extension for hard coal operators employing 80,000 men with a dollar a day wage boost and doubling of employers' contributions to the United Mine Workers Health and Welfare Fund. The pact, ratified by the union scale committee, extends the current agreement to July 10 with wage and welfare changes and a 20 cent per ton welfare royalty.

Riley Tippie 76 of Alexander Township died Sunday at his home near Bates Church.
