Goetze, once seen in public at the realms of a hotel, was declared insane after a disturbing night scene that involved police, a riotous party, and his erratic behavior. He believed three men followed him from Massachusetts to rob him, and a rope-bound grip was noted as part of his erratic conduct. He was examined by a physician and taken to the state hospital for treatment.
The marriage of Mr. Thomas Edmondson and Miss Da Pierce was performed quietly Wednesday at eleven in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Connett on State Street. Dr W A Powell officiated. The couple will reside in this city and then Nelsonville after May 5, with best wishes from friends in Athens.
The Military Band presents a program Friday night after weeks of practice on new music. Selections include March Tenth Regiment, Medley Overture, Ernestine Waltz, The Bohemian Girl pieces, El Capitan March and more. Also notes two local injuries and a fire incident in town.
A public reception is planned for Bishop Walden and Dr. D H Moore at the M E L church in Athens on Friday evening. The Bishop will respond to a welcome program and a musical duet will add to the occasion. At the close, ice cream and cake will be served in the lecture room by church ladies.
