Police cited Marjorie Wyman and David Peterson for failing to keep a safe distance after a four car collision on Richland Avenue near Hooper Street at 7 15 a m. Barbara Jo Kennedy and Arthur Cross were involved. no injuries reported.
Columbia Gas of Ohio announced a natural gas rate cut effective March 1 for Athens and nine nearby communities. The 2.37 cent per thousand cubic feet reduction, about 36 cents monthly for the avg home user, results from supplier refunds passed to customers under fuel cost clauses. The refunds are fully passed back after a year, after which the rate would revert to the nonrefund level. Communities include Athens Albany Buchtel Chauncey Coolville Glouster Jacksonville Nelsonville Trimble and Amesville.
A memorial fund honors Miss Myrta Ashworth former East Elementary School principal from 1958 until her death on January 15. A Myrta Ashworth Memorial Library plaque funded by students will be placed in the school library. Funds also support library expansion and ambulatory care center development at O Bleness Memorial Hospital. Contributions to The Myrta Ashworth Memorial Fund East Elementary School Wallace Drive Athens.
Representatives of the Athens County Shrine Club attended the Aladdin Shrine seminar and installation in Columbus last weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Rapp Mr. and Mrs. Roger Van Dyke and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Burnfield joined the all day session led by club president Mr. Rapp.
Kenneth and Nancy Simpson of Stewart Route 1 in Columbus are named to the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation Young Farm Couples Committee. The program invites more young couples to join Farm Bureau activities and programs.
The board of directors declares a regular quarterly dividend of 3.92 dollars per share on common stock. Payment date is March 1 and the record date is February 9 at the close of business.
