J W Andrews of Stewart renewed acquaintances. J H Wolf and J E Boudinot plan a sawmill on their farm. Taxpayers circulated a petition against issuing bonds for price purposes which met with broad approval.
Born to Mrs Lacey Arms a boy recently. Dess Donnally spent a couple of days last week in Corning. Della Shaw spent last week in Glouster visiting her sister Mrs R Shaw of New Pittsburg was the guest of his father Sunday and Monday. C O Moore and wife and daughter Alma spent last week in Columbus. Carrie and Maria Bass of Derticks visited their grandparents J W Campbell and wife the first of the week. Mick Allman and Addie Williams were quietly married at the bride's parents home on the evening of the 20th with Rev Adkinson officiating.
The Infant child of H M Baker is very sick Emma Selby is very sick with lung fever at C A Snow's home. Mary Crossen of Albany visited Hulda Andrews last week. Rev Simms began meetings at the M RE church Tuesday. Burk Farr of the infirmary called on acquaintances last week. J S Jolley returned from Columbus hospital and remains in poor health. Ira Andrews twenty first birthday celebrated with sixty friends at Mason Andrews residence. Lotia McGill teaching on Marietta Run visited R M Powell's. Pickering and wife welcomed a new boy December 25. Newt France and Walter Williams from Broadwell visited the school. John Naylor, aged citizen, died last Thursday night and buried at Friends graveyard. L A Ross will enter college at Lebanon. Ella and Ida Pickering attended Mt Hermon meetings led by Rev Hemusphar. A taffy party at Willis Webster's delighted attendees. A literary entertainment occurred at the schoolhouse with Mary Pickering and Bertha Wagoner honored. T J Pickering, visiting California, is expected home soon. Emma will stay in California until spring and her grandmother will return.
COOLVILLE reports visitors from Parkersburg and Marietta, a funeral near town, political campaigning, farm changes, and a millinery premium. Joseph Lyons of Daleton and Myrtie Kirby of Marietta visit relatives. deaths of an elderly Carthage township resident and John DeWolf’s daughter noted. revival at M E church continues with Dr A Lawrence preaching.
Isaac Nice is visiting relatives at Big Run for several days. Mrs. Jane Anthony stayed with her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Gibson, last Thursday. Rev. Craig of Marshfield did not fill his Mt. Pleasant appointment Sunday evening. Mrs. Ella Carsey and her Marion-born son visited relatives here. Local residents attend the protracted meeting at Jerseyville M. E. church.
Captain William J Rannells died suddenly of pneumonia in Washington DC Friday morning at age fifty two. A Vin ton county native with deep ties to Athens he served in the Ohio state senate two terms and was Solicitor General under Judge Taft. His Civil War exploits include leading the 18th Ohio and 75th Ohio regiments, being wounded at Gettysburg and escaping a Confederate prison at Columbia. He earned fame for daring Florida campaigns and faced a bounty on his head after an incident at Walton. He was a Loyal Legion member and cousin to local residents Mrs. Sarah R Kaler and Mrs. T H Craig.
Grim and Finsterwald owned the Hagey saloon near the Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern depot. Fire broke out between four and five am on Thursday morning last week, consuming the building and its contents. The Stafford family, tenants on the upper floor, moved out the day before. Loss about $2,000 with $1,200 insurance on the building and $400 on stock. Origin uncertain though incendiary origin is suspected.
