In Flint Michigan state police probed threats of strike violence against union organizers as General Motors sought to eject sit-down strikers from Fisher Body Plant 1 and Plant 2. A court order required the United Automobile Workers Union to show cause by February 2 why the sit-downs should not be permanently enjoined. Circuit Judge Paul V Gadola issued the order after Judge Edward D Black withdrew amid union claims he was GM stockholder.

Cost projected at 210 million with 8 million annual upkeep, later expanded to 50 70 or up to 125 reservoirs. The Senate gave final approval to House amendments extending provisions of the Carey Relief Bond Act.
A bill introduced in the Ohio House by Rep Patrick Monahan would authorize Gov Martin L Davey to declare a state of emergency in flood affected areas. The measure empowers the governor to control prices for food and other necessities during or in anticipation of crises caused by acts of God labor disputes or other causes.
