General Assembly's Work Explained To Rotary Club
State Rep. George Banks outlined the last General Assembly to the Nelsonville Rotary Club. He cited 374 bills passed into law from 1607 introduced, 22 vetoed, three overridden. Major items included a $1.8 billion two year appropriation and a $96 million capital improvements bill. Taxes raised totaled about $195 million from sales, franchise, horse racing, cigarette, beer, and liquor taxes. He noted highway spending of $115 million and school funding moves, plus the Economic Development Commission creation. He highlighted compulsory polio vaccination and a quail bill to boost Southeastern Ohio hunting and tourism. He said the fee bill shifts court service costs to users.
