Fire Destroys Two Family Canaan Home
A Thursday afternoon blaze on South Canaan Road destroyed a two story residence in Canaan Township nine miles east of Athens. The home belonged to Willard Walton and to Mr and Mrs Olaf Allen and their three year old son Bobbie. Both families became homeless. Defective wiring blamed for the fire which began in the kitchen as Mrs Allen spoke with a neighbor by telephone. Firefighters were not available as no district fire department exists and neighbors say the fire spread quickly. This followed another rural home loss earlier in the week on Brimstone Ridge near Coolville.
