Little White Dog Case Ties to Five Points Owner
A small white female dog found in Hop Greene’s barn near Coolville in Athens County is tied to its owner at Five Points between Pomeroy and Chester. Sheriff Tracy traced the dog after a series of livestock thefts including a cow butchered in a field and a later hog theft, with theories about the culprits targeting Greene’s family. The owner admitted liking the dog but avoided buying a tag, arranging for a friend to drop the dog off near Meigs County, while the dog later returned toward Greene’s barn confirming the link to the case. Communities reported a flurry of weekend visits and illnesses among residents, with local movements and family visits noted.

Mine River Trade Lost to the Bend
Pomeroy, Jan 25. Once a major coal loading port on the Ohio River, the town now lacks a workable river pier to load tow boats quickly. M L French notes 50 tons in 15 minutes at his Charter Oak Mine, but towboats need 200+ tons to avoid costly layup. Nearby stations at Hood Coal and Hollywood supply direct boat loading.
