Washington reports a revolt in the House Rules Committee as a bipartisan majority plans to end hearings on a civil rights bill. Rep. Richard Bolling says he will push to end hearings and force a vote before the Lincoln birthday recess.
President Sukarno announced Indonesia would continue its confrontation with Malaysia despite a cease-fire push. Attorney General Kennedy briefed Thai officials as talks aimed at a new summit. Subandrio said the cease-fire could take effect within a week and troops would block cross-border incursions into Sabah and Sarawak.

In Buffalo a woman 23 held up Iggy's Tavern with a pistol. She ordered Johnkins, a 35 year old deaf mute, to lie down and shot him in the abdomen. Johnkins died in hospital. Anita Farrow and Robert Hayes, 37, were charged as look outs.
